Amici della Musica di Tavarnelle | 2025 Season
The presentation of the 2025 programmme marks the end of three years of collaboration between the Amici della Musica and the Comune of Barberino – Tavarnelle. But although this era is drawing to a close we are delighted to announce another three-year agreement with the renewed support of the Comune, allowing us to plan and consolidate our activities with confidence
This last year we returned to our traditional model of having two major concert series: one in the Abbey at Badia a Passignano: the Festival di Pentecoste in June, and the Festival di Badia in July and August. In addition we have enriched the calendar with concerts in the church of Santa Lucia in Borgetto in Tavarnelle, one for New Year and another for the Festa della Toscana in November. The Accademia Malaspina masterclasses and activities in San Donato in Poggio also took place.
This year we are also reaching out to collaborate with the Teatro di Marcialla and with the Officine Creative del Chianti : this will extend still further the range of music in the area.
In view of our renewed collaboration with the local council we are proud to announce a summer particularly rich in exciting events.
The Festival di Pentecoste will begin with a journey to eighteenth-century Venice, the gateway to the East, accompanied by the celebrated cellist and composer Giovanni Sollima together with the violinist Federico Guglielmo. The programme includes music by Vivaldi, Barsanti and Ravel and compositions and interpretations by Sollima himself.
Our next concert will be devoted to the extraordinary young Canadian violinist Kerson Leong accompanied by Mario Montore on the piano, and the Quartetto Indaco, winner of the 2023 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition.
The last concert on 30 June is dedicated to the memory of Maria Tipo with the participation of her daughter, the violinist, Alina Company. The performers will be two of Maria Tipo’s acclaimed students: Andrea Lucchesini and Pietro De Maria.
Although the programme is built on music from the great romantic tradition with works by Clara Schumann, Brahms, Franck and Tchaikovsky it also offers powerful contributions from the twentieth century with music by Janacek and Shostakovitch.
The classical period will feature strongly in the programme presented by the ORT-Orchestra della Toscana at the Festival di Badia, with pieces by Mozart, Rossini and Haydn, alternating with the varied and imaginative programme offered by Giovanni Gnocchi and the Salzburg Mozarteum Cellists. With the last concert we come full circle with a return to Venice and to Vivaldi.
We are immensely grateful to the great counter-tenor, Michael Chance, who will close the season at the end of August, conducting young international singers from SienAgosto, and the Royal Northern College of Music Chamber Choir together with the acclaimed British tenors, Nicholas Mulroy and Guy Cutting, in a performance of one of the masterpieces of the western canon, Il Vespro della Beata Vergine by Claudio Monteverdi. This exciting event will take place in the church of Santa Lucia al Borghetto with the instrumental soloists under the guidance of Giulia Nuti.
